It’s hard to know where to start! The facilities at Children’s Choice are incredible and my daughter enjoys every minute of her time in the gym. Being offered a hot drink the moment you step through the door is just the first sign of the welcoming and caring approach at Children’s Choice.
The OT’s work is second to none. Her thoughtful, creative solutions for our daughter were foreign to my husband and I, but adapting these into our daily lives has been the most impactful work we have done. The OT is always looking for ways to address issues that arise and always seems to have alternative strategies to consider. The OT is more than just a great therapist, she is always available when we have questions, challenging situations arise or just someone to listen to, her passion and love of her job are clear to see!
The assessment, information and advice have transformed not only our daughter’s daily life, school life and our family life too. We can’t thank the OT enough, her approach, skills and insight have been utterly invaluable to us as a family.
Children’s Choice Therapy has had a hugely positive impact on our son both at home and school. Before our son’s behaviour was seen as “bad”, “challenging” etc. We were desperate to help him but didn’t know how to. From the first assessment we were so enlightened as Alison fully explained why our son behaved in the way he did and then devised a sensory diet to use at school to manage these behaviours. The OT also explained how these could be adapted to use at home too. Our son is so much happier, calmer and settled now. We and his school have so much understanding of our child’s needs from this service this filters through all aspects of his life. It is an essential service for any child with sensory needs.
After seeking educational support for our 10 year old son from a variety of places over the years, we hadn’t ever met anyone who understood the devastating impact of his complex SEN. As a child that masks his difficulties well in school, they always reported he was ‘fine’ and meeting all academic targets. (I’m sure this is a familiar experience for many). After a day at school, his behaviour told a different story; he was emotional, exhausted and often impossible to parent. Support in school was difficult to access; they didn’t “see” his difficulties. Our last attempt to secure help was to have him assessed by an Occupational Therapist trained in Sensory Integration.
The experience with Children’s Choice Therapy has been exceptional from start to finish; we couldn’t have asked for anything more. I had many questions that the OT answered in terms that a parent could understand. The OT was friendly, fun and engaged our son from start to finish-she had endless patience with him. The OTs commitment to assessing and helping our son has been outstanding. She has gone above and beyond at every single stage and nothing has been too much trouble. The written report was equally thorough, specified and quantified, revealing many difficulties others had failed to identify in years of assessments. We are confident now we can finally access the support that is so desperately needed for our son to have a positive experience within the education system.
In all honesty, A’s dad and I learned more about A’s difficulties in the session with the OT than we have anywhere else, and we’ve been through multiple parent sessions when it comes to his Autism. We were with A through the assessment and not only got to see exactly where and why he struggles but what the name might be behind it all and how to help ease it, tailored purely to A. Our OT was fantastic.
The report looks absolutely fantastic, with loads of advice on how to help A no matter the context! We’ve already started with [some of the strategies recommended]. It’s working so well!
Thank you so much!
Last year you assessed my daughter at the request of Staffordshire LA, as part of a tribunal appeal I made against the LA refusing to issue her with an EHCP.
After 3 years of not taking no for an answer and not giving up the tribunal hearing finally went ahead on Tuesday this week and the outcome is that she has been issued an EHCP and will now get the support she needs.
I genuinely believe that the report you provided from the findings of your assessment on my daughter played a huge part in the decision and I can’t thank you enough.
She has been assessed by many professionals over recent years and while you only spent a few hours with her and us as a family, you really understood her and took time to listen to all of us which really came through on your report, which sadly other professionals have failed to do.
Anyway, as stated I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the part you played in this and say a massive thank you.
